Shaquille O’Neal would have a hard time carrying Stephen Curry’s we:ap:ons, Shaq responded

Even after the evolution of NBA centers, Shaquille O’Neal stands as the most dominant paint player.

His strength, athleticism, and complimentary first step manage to surpass the likes of Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, and Anthony Davis.

However, like any other player, his game had faults too. He shot a little over 50% from the free-throw line (the origin story of hack-a-Shaq), and couldn’t find the net in his 21 of out 22 three-point attempts (4.5%).

So, when the crew at TNT evaluated the latest Golden State Warriors win over the streaking Dallas Mavericks, Shaq couldn’t help but put forth a desire to shoot like Stephen Curry.

The 6’2 guard hit a pre-game half-court shot and mounted back-to-back threes in the second quarter.

This prompted Shaq to say, “I wish I could shoot like that Candace.” To this, Adam Lefkoe hilariously remarked, “You’d be insufferable.”

While Adam’s remark left no room to build on the narrative, he might actually be true.

Shaquille O’Neal, due to his 7’1 325lbs build, could bully ball everyone in the paint, leaving little to no room for assists.

However, when offensive strategies needed a lighthouse presence to anchor the paint, Shaq built a reputation for being a great ball facilitator.

Moreover, while he might not have a behind-the-back dribble or a sassy hesi in his bag, Shaq has given plenty of highlights while dribbling down the floor.

With that, the only separation a modern-day NBA center gets from the legend is through shooting.

Had Shaquille O’Neal been even a little closer to Steph (even on jumpers inside the arc), many can argue that his career could have ended with more grandiose; probably with more championships as well.

Shaquille O’Neal is the biggest Stephen Curry supporter

Alongside his harsh criticism of various stars, Shaquille O’Neal never fails to tip his hat to whoever deems worthy.

When talking about Stephen Curry, Shaq seems to not only respect his game but also be a fan of it; all while backing the Baby-Faced Assassin whenever necessary.

One significant attestation to that is O’Neal, unarguably being a legend, finds immense joy and pride in citing himself as “Black Steph Curry.”

The moment went viral last year as Shaw was seen trying his luck from the distance in a shootaround.

Moreover, in a December 2023 telecast, Shaquille O’Neal claimed Steph to be his favorite player. When pressed by Kenny Smith, Shaq boldly declared that believes Steph to be a better player than himself.

Shaq’s remarks came in light of the debate about Curry’s all-time top-10 candidacy.

O’Neal approval highlights his belief in Steph’s shooting talents. Moreover, his decision to put his legacy aside highlights the immense respect he holds for the sharpshooter.
