In a recent TIME magazine interview, Taylor Swift candidly discussed the psychological toll of her long-standing feud with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. The pop superstar, who has been named TIME’s 2023 Person of the Year, didn’t hold back in expressing her views.
Swift highlighted the emotional strain caused by the feud, stating that it “took me down psychologically.” She didn’t mince words when referring to the reality star and her ex-husband, labeling them as ‘trash’. The feud between Swift and Kardashian dates back to 2016 and has been a topic of intense public scrutiny.
During the interview, Swift also criticized the music industry’s treatment of young artists. She lamented the short-term focus of record labels, emphasizing that they often prioritize replacing artists rather than nurturing their growth. According to Swift, the industry’s approach in past decades seemed to be: “Let’s take a bunch of teenagers, throw them into a fire, and watch what happens. By the time they’ve accumulated enough wisdom to do their job effectively, we’ll find new teenagers.”
Swift’s solution? She constantly reinvents herself with each new album, making it harder for critics to pin her down. She explained, “I realized every record label was actively working to try to replace me. I thought instead, I’d replace myself first with a new me. It’s harder to hit a moving target.”
The interview also touched on Swift’s contentious relationship with her former label, Big Machine, which she accuses of stifling her creativity. Her battle over ownership of her early albums escalated when music manager Scooter Braun acquired them. Swift expressed her frustration, believing that her masters were being sold to someone with questionable intentions.
Braun, who previously managed Kanye West, was at the center of another feud involving Swift. West’s song “Famous” included the controversial lyric: “I made that bitch famous,” referencing their past conflict. Swift publicly opposed the lyric, but the situation intensified when Kardashian leaked a phone call recording between West and Swift.
Despite the challenges, Swift remains resilient and continues to evolve as an artist. Her candid interview sheds light on the complexities of fame, feuds, and the music industry—a glimpse into the life of a global icon.
Taylor Swift criticises Kim Kardashian for leaking a call with Kanye West
In her interview with TIME magazine, Taylor Swift spoke about Kim Kardashian and the call that she leaked with Kanye West.
In an interview with the magazine, Swift talked about several topics ranging from her music career, to the Eras Tour, her relationship with Travis Kelce, and her experiences with Kim Kardashian, who she criticised for leaking a call she had with Kanye West, Kardashian’s ex-husband.
The singer spoke about The Kardashians star’s role in the leaked 2016 phone call between Taylor and Kanye West about her song Famous.

Swift opens up on ‘illegally recorded phone call’
At the time, Kim, who posted several clips of the call on social media, made it appear as though Swift had approved of West singing the words: I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that b**** famous.
The singer, who admitted she has been dating NFL star Travis Kelce ‘for months’, denied being aware of these lines and argued that the song had never been shared with her in its entirety. A release of the entire phone conversation later revealed that Kim’s leak had actually been edited and that Swift’s claims were true.
“You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar,” Swift says.
.@taylorswift13 has chosen to reignite an old exchange – that at this point in time feels very self-serving given the suffering millions of real victims are facing right now.

Kim Kardashian called out Swift in 2020
“That took me down psychologically to a place I’ve never been before. I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave a rental house for a year. I was afraid to get on phone calls. I pushed away most people in my life because I didn’t trust anyone anymore. I went down really, really hard.”
After four years, in 2020, the original version of the call was shared and Taylor Swift decided to break her silence for the first time on the issue with Kim Kardashian responding. The SKIMS founder took to X (formerly Twitter) to defend herself and her then-husband, criticising Swift for reigniting the fire.
To add, Kanye as an artist has every right to document his musical journey and process, just like she recently did through her documentary.

‘Taylor lied through her publicist’ said Kim K
Kardashian tweeted in 2020: “To be clear, the only issue I ever had around the situation was that Taylor lied through her publicist who stated that “Kanye never called to ask for permission…” They clearly spoke so I let you all see that. Nobody ever denied the word “b****” was used without her permission.”
“At the time when they spoke the song had not been fully written yet, but as everyone can see in the video, she manipulated the truth of their actual conversation in her statement when her team said she ‘declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message,” Kardashian continued. “The lie was never about the word b****, It was always whether there was a call or not and the tone of the conversation.”
“I only posted a few clips on Snapchat to make my point and the full video that recently leaked doesn’t change the narrative.”
