Princess Charlotte looks just like her great-grandmother Elizabeth II in ninth birthday photo

Princess Charlotte resembles her late great-grandmother in a new portrait to mark her ninth birthday.

Kensington Palace has shared a sweet picture of the nine-year-old princess to commemorate her special day.

Posting the snap, which was captured by Princess Catherine, on social media, the palace wrote: “Happy 9th Birthday, Princess Charlotte! Thank you for all of the kind messages today.”

Check out the picture below:

The young princess is Prince William and Catherine’s second of three children, alongside her older brother Prince George, 10, and younger brother Prince Louis, six. She is the couple’s only daughter and third in line to the British throne.

The photograph reveals the young royal looking like a younger version of her great-grandmother the late Queen Elizabeth II.

With flowing blonde hair, she sported a burgundy wool cardigan over a navy blue top and a casual denim skirt. She showed off her beaming smile as she posed next to a clematis plant – which could be a tribute to the late monarch who passed away in September 2022.

Many people rushed to the comment section to send their birthday blessings to Charlotte, with one user writing: “Your grace and charm shine through in every picture, and your resemblance to both Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana is simply breathtaking.”

Another said: “Happy birthday dear Princess Charlotte. Such a beautiful photo taken by your very talented mother. Have a wonderful day!”

A third commented: “Happy birthday sweet Princess Charlotte! Another beautiful picture from The Princess of Wales! Thank you for sharing!”

The photo comes after the couple shared a picture of their son Louis on April 13 to mark the young royal’s sixth birthday. The image was also taken by the Princess of Wales.

The past few months have been an eventful period for the family after Princess Catherine and King Charles III were both diagnosed with cancer.

Last month, the future queen announced in an emotional video message that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy.

“This, of course, came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” she said.

“As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment,” she added.

The Prince of Wales provided an update on his wife’s treatment during his solo appearances at Seaham and Newcastle on Tuesday (April 30).

The 41-year-old visited had his first official engagement at Low Carbon Materials. He then went to Newcastle where he opened James’ Place – a charitably-run suicide prevention center offering free, life-saving treatment for young men from a new base in Summerhill.

While there, a member of the public, draped in a Union Flag, asked the heir to the throne: “Do you mind if I ask how your wife and children are?” according to Metro.

William responded: “All doing well, thank you. Yes, we’re doing well.”

The devastating attack spanned approximately 22 minutes before law enforcement arrived on the scene, putting an end to the rampage.

Among the casualties was 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin, who was on his way to school when the attack unfolded.

Daniel’s devastated family spoke to Sky News, describing him as “a wonderful child” who was “well loved” and “hard-working”.

They added that his death “leaves a gaping wound in the family”.

“No family should have to go through what we are experiencing today,” they said. “Any family will understand it’s an absolute tragedy.”

In a statement, the school paid tribute to Daniel, saying: “He was a true scholar, demonstrating commendable dedication to his academic pursuits. His positive nature and gentle character will leave a lasting impact on us.”

The Metropolitan Police have identified the suspect as 36-year-old Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo, a dual Spanish-Brazilian national, who now faces charges including murder, attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary, and possession of a bladed article.

Detective Chief Inspector Larry Smith conveyed, per the Independent: “This is an incredibly tragic incident that has resulted in a young boy losing his life and his family devastated.”

London Mayor Sadiq Khan expressed his condolences, stating: “I’m sure I speak for the entire city when I say our thoughts are with this young child and his family.

“It breaks my heart not only that this child has lost his life, but two members of our emergency services have risked their own safety to make sure others weren’t injured.

“It shows the danger our police officers face every day and I thank them for their bravery.”

As reported by BBC News, Monzo is currently at Westminster Magistrates’ Court at the time of writing (May 2) as the legal proceedings get underway.

He will appear at the Old Bailey on May 7.
