Carole Middleton has been supporting Princess Kate following her abdominal surgery in January – and the subsequent furore surrounding her whereabouts. Thankfully, she has some wise words for her daughter at this time

Carole Middleton has been firmly by her daughter’s side as she recovers from surgery – and she once gave Kate some invaluable advice for coping with tough moments.

It’s no secret that Princess Kate is incredibly close to her mother. Carole has been supporting her eldest behind the scenes following her hospital stay in January and on hand to help out with her young grandchildren, George, Charlotte, and Louis.

In a revealing interview in 2022, Carole shared an insight into her bond with Kate as she reflected on the years she spent balancing the “physical and emotional demands” of motherhood with her work.

And her number one piece of advice for fellow working mums couldn’t be more apt for the Princess right now.

Carole told Sheer Luxe magazine that the most important thing for parents is “accepting help when it’s offered” and “surrounding yourself with a good team that you trust”.

Thankfully, Kate is known to have a strong support network around her, including family and close friends. And they are all said to have rallied around – particularly in light of the unprecedented furore surrounding the Mother’s Day photograph.

Elsewhere in the interview, Carole spoke about juggling the “physical and emotional demands” of motherhood alongside running a business.

The 69-year-old, who founded her business Party Pieces back in 1989, said: “I had to be really organised, get up early and fit my work into school hours, while after-school clubs sometimes gave me the gift of an extra hour or two.

“But working for myself meant I had flexibility, so I could squeeze in sports matches and school productions. School holidays were tricky, but Mike and I were a good team and we managed to juggle home and work life.”

Carole launched her business with husband Michael when they were trying to plan eldest daughter Kate’s fifth birthday party but found the partyware on the market lacking.

When their children were older, Carole involved them in the business. ” Party Pieces has literally grown alongside my family, and I’m very proud of that,” she said. “Pippa wrote our ‘Party Times’ blog, James did the cakes when he first left school and Catherine developed our first birthday and baby category.”

Nowadays, Carole – fondly known as “Granny Middleton” – has seven grandchildren to keep her busy, including Prince George , Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Middle daughter Pippa also has three children – Arthur, five, Grace, four, and one-year-old Rose – while James welcomed son Inigo with his wife, Alizée Thevenet, in October last year.

She spoke about her hands-on approach in an interview with Good Housekeeping, in which she said she likes to “run down the hills, climb the trees and go through the tunnel at the playground”.

“As long as I am able to, that’s what I’ll be doing,” she revealed. “I cook with them, I muck around dancing, we go on bike rides.”
