Many consider former world Featherweight champion Jose Aldo the greatest featherweight of all time in the company and the world of MMA. He’s set to take on Jonathan Martinez in Brazil in the co-main event of UFC 301. The King of Rio is well and truly back inside the octagon. Aldo was one of the longest-reigning champions, ruling over the Featherweight division for almost a decade. He recently opened up on his possibly last UFC fight in the company and what he plans on doing next.

Jose Aldo last fought Merab, the next title contender, and he lost to him unanimously. Aldo will be looking to get back in the win column with a victory over Jonathan Martinez.

Jose Aldo hints at a plausible boxing event

Aldo is well acquainted with the art of striking, but the kickboxing legend has never been to the boxing ring and scrapped it out for glory. As good as Aldo is, not many MMA fighters have been to the boxing side of combat sports and emerged victorious. In a recent interview, Aldo revealed his plans for the future after the UFC 301 co-main event in his home country of Brazil. He said,

That’s basically what I told the UFC a couple months ago: I want to do this fight, see where I’m at, see how I do, see how I perform and then I can make a decision.

I’m looking at maybe a big boxing fight maybe somewhere down the line later this year. But we’ll revisit that with the UFC once this fight is done with Jonathan Martinez. That fight with Floyd Mayweather was basically all set and done. Ali (Abdelaziz) was the one that was negotiating that and I don’t really know what happened and it ended up not panning out for us to fight in Saudi Arabia. But there’s a big event on Netflix later this year (with Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson), and hopefully, I can get on that. But we’ll have to see. There’s a lot of options floating.

Jose Aldo made it clear that he is taking the Martinez bout seriously. He considers Martinez a severe contender and lets everyone know he’s serious about his last fight in the octagon. Jose Aldo also hinted at a battle in the boxing ring on the Jake Paul and Mike Tyson undercard. He revealed he would love to participate in such a big event, which is set to be streamed on Netflix.

Aldo also revealed he was set to fight boxing great Floyd Mayweather in Saudi Arabia. He couldn’t understand why the fight fell out and was never given a particular reason. Jose Aldo will always be an absolute legend in the UFC and is already a UFC Hall of Famer. It’ll be interesting to see if Jose Aldo can attain the same success inside the boxing ring as he did in the octagon.
