In recent times, various movements, campaigns, innovative models, and practical actions have successfully mobilized the collective strength of the community to spread the message “fragrant homes, clean alleys, beautiful streets” across the province. This initiative has significantly enhanced the appearance and development of villages and residential areas, making them more beautiful, developed, and civilized.
Lai Châu City: A Beacon of Urban Civilization
Lai Châu City stands out as a prime example of urban civilization in the province. Streets and alleys are adorned with vibrant flags and flowers, creating a clean and beautiful environment. In the small streets of Tân Phong, Quyết Tiến, and Đoàn Kết wards, visitors are delighted by the charming gateways and the lush greenery and flowers that line the streets.
According to Hà Thị Phú, Head of the City’s Mass Mobilization Committee and Chairwoman of the Lai Châu City Fatherland Front, the city has implemented the “Skillful Mass Mobilization” model. This model encourages neighborhoods and villages in communes and wards to register for the “Clean House, Beautiful Garden,” “Clean House, Beautiful Street,” and “Comprehensive Self-Managed Neighborhood” initiatives. These models have been warmly received by the community, fostering a sense of responsibility and awareness about maintaining a green environment and clean, beautiful homes and alleys.
Rural Transformation: A New, Cleaner Look
Not only in Lai Châu City but also in villages and communes across the province, the overall local landscape has become more modern, clean, and beautiful. This transformation is marked by concrete roads, bright red flags, colorful flowers along the roadsides, and welcoming cultural village gates. These achievements result from the determined and focused efforts of various levels and sectors to promote patriotic movements such as “All People Unite to Build Cultural Life” and “Lai Châu Unites to Build New Rural Areas.” Local organizations and associations have mobilized their members and the general public to participate in practical, small-scale activities.
Women’s Union: Leading by Example
The “Building 5 No’s, 3 Clean’s” campaign by the Women’s Union has been particularly noteworthy. According to Khoàng Thị Thanh Nga, Chairwoman of the Provincial Women’s Union, the campaign ensures the “3 Clean’s” criteria—clean house, clean kitchen, clean alley. The Union has organized training sessions for 646 district and grassroots officials and core members, instructing them on the campaign’s criteria and household waste sorting. The Women’s Union regularly conducts environmental protection and plastic waste reduction communication sessions for women, integrates funding from various projects to provide trash bins for households and communities, and encourages the formation of waste collection self-management groups.
The campaign has gained significant traction, with women actively participating in various innovative models such as “Women’s Waste Collection Teams,” “Recycled Homes,” “Eco-Brick Making,” and “Flowering Tree Bases.” In 2023 alone, the Women’s Union planted nearly 3,000 trees, made over 8,000 eco-bricks, distributed over 100 trash bins to households and communities, and helped nearly 1,000 member families meet the campaign’s criteria. Women’s groups across the province maintain regular street cleaning, build flower roads, and plant greenery in villages and residential areas.
Youth Contributions: Energizing Rural Development
Youth organizations in the province have also significantly contributed to brightening rural areas. The Provincial Youth Union organizes annual programs such as “Winter Volunteering,” “Spring Volunteering,” “Youth Month,” and “Summer Volunteer Campaign,” involving members in activities like street cleaning, waste collection, tree planting, and building self-managed youth roads. They also mobilize resources for rural lighting projects. Over the past five years, the Youth Union has planted nearly 15 million trees, installed hundreds of rural lighting projects, created hundreds of “Flowering Electric Poles” in cities and districts, and maintained 29 “Bright-Green-Clean-Beautiful-Civilized-Safe” roads, shared Lò Minh Hiếu, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union.
Community Spirit: The Heart of Transformation
Walking along the beautiful village streets and alleys, we, along with local officials and residents, feel a sense of joy and pride. These projects, driven by the community’s spirit, are carried out and enjoyed by the people. Vàng Văn Suồn, Secretary of Ngà Village Party Committee in Mường Than Commune, cheerfully told us, “To beautify our village, the community readily contributes money and labor to plant trees, install solar street lights, and build cultural gates and flagpoles. Each family keeps their home neat and fragrant, contributing to the development of a cultural and civilized village.”
A Bright Future
The collective efforts of individuals, organizations, and communities have made Lai Châu increasingly vibrant and full of life. The development of society and culture serves as a foundation for economic growth, aligning with the 14th Provincial Party Congress’s resolution to achieve “rapid and sustainable development.” This community strength fortifies national security, ensuring peace and protecting the border.
