By self-studying, Mr. Tran Tuan Anh in Cam Duong commune (Lao Cai city) has successfully built a model of raising stuffed snails, supplying products to many customers inside and outside the province, earning hundreds of millions of dong. each year.
Vibrant and dynamic is how we felt when we met Tran Tuan Anh in Da 2 village, Cam Duong commune. Born in 1994, after graduating from the University of Mining and Geology, Mr. Tuan Anh was accepted to work at a business right in his hometown with a good income. Work is stable, but in 2019, the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, causing difficulties for the business and he had to quit his job.
During his time off at home, Mr. Tuan Anh accidentally read an article on the internet about the model of raising stuffed snails. Finding the model interesting, he learned more from books, newspapers and went to practice some models to study.
Coming from a farmer’s family, since childhood, he was attached to the fields. He quickly grasped the process of raising semi-natural stuffed snails, so he started practicing.
His family did not have a pond or field to carry out the model, so he built 3 tanks on the garden ground, with an area of 200 m2 using the technique of lining the bottom of the tank with tarpaulin and adding mud and pumping water to create habitat.
With a start-up capital of 5 million VND, he bought 13,000 snail seeds to release. After more than 4 months of raising, in October 2019, he harvested the first batch of commercial snails and selected parent snails for breeding.
From initial success, in 2020, Tuan Anh decided to expand the farming scale to 14 tanks, an area of 1,200 m2 , including commercial snails and seed production.
The time for 1 farming season (from seeding to harvest is 3.5 to 4 months), snails can reach 25 snails/kg. After 2 more months of farming, snails begin to reproduce.
Food sources for snails are quite diverse, popularly such as duckweed, squash, luffa, sweet potatoes and leaves. He took advantage of the entire area around his garden, building a trellis to grow more vegetables and fruit trees, both for food and to create shade for the snail tank. On the surface of the aquarium, he planted duckweed for the snails to cling to and reproduce naturally.
Depending on the size, quantity, and density of snails, food must be added once every 3 to 4 days. In particular, in the winter months, stuffed snails are less active so they do not need to be provided with a lot of food continuously.
This is the “hibernation” stage of snails, only providing moderate food, because excess food in the pond combined with too much snail waste will pollute the water source.
The most important thing for snail farming is to have a stable and clean water source, which can be taken from streams, natural veins or water from drilled wells.
On average each year, he produces and purchases, supplying to the market 8 – 12 tons of commercial snails, more than 15 million seeds, the main consumer market is in the province and provinces such as Lai Chau, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Ha Nam…
With selling prices ranging from 70,000 VND/kg to 90,000 VND/kg of commercial snails and more than 500,000 VND/kg of seed snails, each year he earns a profit of more than 100 million VND.
Not only does he develop his own economy, Mr. Tuan Anh also guides farming techniques, provides breeds, and coordinates production and consumption of products for snail farmers in the area inside and outside the province.
The model of raising stuffed snails of 9X boy Tran Tuan Anh has exploited the local potential well, opening up the direction of developing new specialty animals with high economic value for his family as well as replicating it for the people. countryside.
