Caitlin Clark and Connor McCaffery, both former University of Iowa basketball players, have continued their love for the game beyond college and into their professional lives.
Clark, who set the NCAA record as the overall top scorer in Division I basketball, made history again on April 15 as she became the WNBA’s first draft pick. She signed a four-year contract with the Indiana Fever, embarking on her professional basketball career.

Pursuing a coaching career
On the other hand, McCaffery, known for his impressive assist-to-turnover ratio in NCAA history, has transitioned into a role as a team assistant for the Indiana Pacers. Despite describing it as an “entry-level job,” McCaffery, 25, is dedicated to learning and growing in the field, with aspirations of becoming a coach in the future.
“I’ll play dummy defense, run the scout team, help coaches on film stuff, help on video projects if they need, scouting reports if they need,” McCaffery said.
“It’s kind of all-hands on deck, whatever you’re asked to do, be ready to do it.

“It’s a way in. It’s an entry-level job. You’ve got to work hard and work your way up. That’s obviously what I want to do.”
While McCaffery focuses on his career with the Pacers, he remains Clark‘s biggest supporter, cheering her on as she makes waves in the WNBA.
