Young girl who met Taylor Swift at concert has died

The young girl who touched the hearts of millions after meeting Taylor Swift at one of her Eras Tour concerts has sadly passed away.

A video of Scarlett Oliver, from Perth in Australia, went viral earlier this year after she met her biggest idol Taylor Swift at one of her Sydney Eras Tour dates.

The 9-year-old, who was suffering from an aggressive form of brain cancer known as high-grade glioma, was visibly starstruck watching the 34-year-old perform one of her biggest hits, ’22’, on stage but was shocked to see the star approach her before the final chorus of the song.

Swift bent down and gave the little girl a hug, telling her that she’s happy Scarlett could attend, before giving her the iconic ’22’ hat and telling her that she loves her.

Natalie, Scarlett’s mom wrote on Instagram that the family was “beyond grateful” that her daughter could live this moment.

“@taylorswift you are AMAZING!! Thank you so much for making Scarlett’s dream come true!! To everyone who shared her story to help us make this happen we are beyond greatful!!! Scarlett is on top of the world right now!!

“I’m so emotional and happy this morning,” she added.

The heartwarming video was reposted across multiple social media platforms where it received a lot of love from fans.

“Love or hate her music, Taylor Swift is one of the most humble and genuine humans on this planet,” wrote one user, while another added: “No way you can watch that without a tear. What a great moment!”

A third also commented: “You can feel her emotions in this video. Not sure to scream or cry. We continue to pray for your daughter.”

Sadly though, it was announced that the nine-year-old recently lost her battle with cancer.

Taking to Instagram, her father Paul announced her death in an emotional post consisting of photos of the pair, alongside a heartfelt caption:

“My Angel, so strong, so brave, so beautiful. Nothing will ever be the same again. Don’t forget me and please find a way to let me know you are OK. Goodnight baby, I love you – Dad

“It’s just not fair.”

It comes as the family updated fans with a heartbreaking health update just weeks after the little girl attended the Eras concert.

In April, Paul took to Instagram again to state that their “beautiful” daughter was not doing well.

“Unfortunately, the last two weeks have seen a rapid deterioration,” the father wrote. “She recently had a feeding tube inserted to assist in weight gain as she has dropped to a little over 20kg and is bringing up anything that is going in. We have spent much of the school holidays in hospital due to complications with the tube, constant vomiting and extreme tiredness.”

He also revealed that based on an “MRI scan”, the situation has turned “dire” and that Scarlett only has “weeks rather than months.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with Scarlett’s loved ones during this difficult time.
