Prince Archie will be celebrating his fifth birthday next week, with his dad Prince Harry recalling one awkward mistake he made while Meghan Markle was giving birth

Many people are nervous when they become first-time parents and it seems Prince Harry was no different.

Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their first child together, Prince Archie, on May 6, 2019. Harry was very nervous ahead of the birth and decided to try something out to calm himself down – using the laughing gas that was meant for his wife.

The Duke of Sussex recalled the moment in his memoir, Spare. Setting the scene, he explained how Meghan was bouncing on a giant ball inside Portland Hospital in London when he took “several slow, penetrating hits.”

Writing in Spare, Harry said: “Meg, bouncing on a giant purple ball, a proven way of giving Nature a push, laughed and rolled her eyes. I took several more hits and now I was bouncing too.”

When Meghan’s labour began, however, Harry was forced to apologise for accidentally using the entire canister of laughing gas. He wrote: “When her contractions began to quicken, and deepen, a nurse came and tried to give some laughing gas to Meg.

“There was none left. The nurse looked at the tank, looked at me, and I could see the thought slowly dawning: Gracious, the husband’s had it all. Sorry, I said meekly.”

Archie will be turning five on Monday, with it believed King Charles will reach out to wish his grandson a happy birthday. Royal expert Tom Quinn claims the monarch has even discussed the idea of video-calling his son and grandson.

Speaking to The Mirror, the royal author said: “King Charles dislikes new technology, but is desperate to keep in touch with his grandchildren on the other side of the Atlantic so he will certainly call Harry and wish Archie Happy Birthday.

“Charles been asking about video calling, but according to his aides, he’s uncomfortable with the idea. If he makes an ordinary telephone call to Harry it means he can have a quick word with Archie without the need to talk to Meghan, a prospect that fills him with dread.”
