Tipping Point host Ben Shephard was left disappointed as player Doug revealed what he would be spending his jackpot counter winnings on in Wednesday’s episode.
Tipping Point host Ben Shephard couldn’t hide his dismay when contestant Doug disclosed his rather unexciting plans for the prize money.
On Wednesday’s episode (September 4), Doug breezed into the final, outplaying competitors Nile and Natasha to vie for the jackpot counter. When quizzed by Ben on his intentions for any potential winnings, Doug had a clear plan in mind.
Ben probed: “Regardless of what happened, you’ve made it here. The others have gone. It’s just you, Doug, and the machine, and the jackpot counter. Have you thought about what you’d like to do with the money if you get it out?”
To which Doug responded: “I was planning to take an aborted trip back to Australia, but my daughter’s boyfriend proposed while they were on a Norwegian cruise.”
Expressing empathy, Ben remarked: “Oh, how inconvenient!” as Doug elaborated: “My wife, sadly, agreed to pay!”, reports the Daily Star.
Ben wasn’t impressed by Doug’s plans
Ben then clarified: “So the money will go towards the wedding?” and Doug affirmed: “Somewhat.”
Ben queried further: “Maybe a little bit to get you to Australia? Fingers crossed.”
Ben added: “Either way it’d be lovely to be able to get you the jackpot so you can put some towards the wedding, which I don’t doubt you would absolutely love, and hopefully that trip as well. So best of luck!”
Doug scooped the coveted jackpot counter
Doug’s game show gamble paid off handsomely as he clinched the enviable £10,000 jackpot amidst a studio bathed in golden light. He narrowly missed out on doubling his windfall to £20,000 due to an elusive double counter.
In addition to the cash, Doug’s final play netted him a mystery prize, which turned out to be a voucher for a bottomless brunch. The show’s host quipped, “I need a drink after that!” and hinted at joining the winner’s celebration.
Doug, with a chuckle, responded, “I’m going to go for that bottomless brunch now!” to which the host concurred, “I think we all need it after that!”

Viewers were thrilled by Doug’s victory, with one fan commenting: “So pleased for Doug. Tense ending. Love Tipping Point.”
Another viewer praised, “That was close but well done Doug!” while a third chimed in: “He played well enough to deserve the double to be fair.”
Meanwhile, another fan humorously remarked: “Well done! £10K and a fry up at the local Wimpy with a bottle of Lambrini.”
