Television and radio presenter Rylan Clarke admitted ‘some of us have been through heartbreak’ when he presented his popular Radio 2 show on Saturday.
Rylan Clark made a “heartbreak” admission on Radio 2.
Rylan Clark warned fans ‘“that’s illegal” after making a candid admission about “heartbreak” on his BBC Radio 2 show.
On Rylan on Saturday, the 35-year-old opted to play One for Sorrow by Steps to mark singer Claire Richards’ birthday. But it was the song’s rainy intro that caught the attention of DJ Rylan.
The 1990s classic starts with rain and a thunderstorm, before launching into a story of heartbreak. This was something Rylan felt resonated with his own life.
Introducing the track, he commented: “It might not be raining outside but some of us have been through heartbreak darling, so it’s not all about you.”
Singing along after the song finished, Rylan quipped: “What a tune. Don’t ruin Steps – it’s illegal really to do that.”
Rylan with ex Dan in 2013.
Having risen to fame on the X Factor in 2012, Rylan signed up to Celebrity Big Brother in January of 2013. After a successful run on the show, he joined as co-host of Big Brother’s Bit on the Side later that year.
It was through Big Brother that he met his now ex-husband, former Metropolitan Police detective Dan Neal. The pair split up in 2021 after Rylan confessed he cheated on Dan “years ago”.
In his book, Ten: The Decade That Changed My Future, Rylan says he wasn’t sure why he decided to make the confession one day, but “knew I had to do it”. He later told Matt Willis’ On the Mend podcast that he “lost himself” after the divorce.
The divorce had such a profound impact on Rylan that he took four months away from the limelight. In an interview with The Guardian, he said: “I couldn’t understand why I pressed the nuclear button on my seemingly perfect life.

“And it’s only now I’m better that I realise it was the ejector seat I needed. Now I just wish I’d pressed that escape button earlier.”
Rylan also added that he was admitted to hospital after attempting to take his own life. He continued: “I got so ill to the point where I knew I couldn’t get any iller.
“I couldn’t speak. I had to learn to speak again, I had to learn to move again. It was like I’d had a stroke.
“I couldn’t understand anything. Nothing made sense to me. I couldn’t have the TV on and I couldn’t listen to music. All I could do was sit in silence. TV and music is my job! I was f***ed.”
Rylan however returned to the spotlight. He continued to present his Radio 2 show and regularly appears on the likes of The One Show and This Morning.
