Kate Garraway swiftly offered an apology on Good Morning Britain following her chat with guest Sawsan Choucair.
During the segment, Kate and co-host Ed Balls talked to Sawsan, who suffered the heartbreaking loss of six family members in the 2017 Grenfell tragedy.
As the report from the Grenfell Fire inquiry surfaced this week, it highlighted that the deaths of all 72 victims could have been prevented.
Speaking with Sawsan, the GMB presenter asked: “What would justice mean to you?”
She replied: “It would be great, it would be such great news.”
Nevertheless, Garraway immediately realised her misstep and rephrased: “Sorry, that was a very bad question. How do you define justice? What do you want?”
Sawsan told the ITV presenter that for the bereaved families, seeing prosecutions is paramount.
Articulating her frustration, she added: “That’s number one, our main point is prosecutions, until now. It’s taken them so long, they haven’t even done it.
“It’s just inquiries so it’s let them go through all this time. Seven years on, where are the prosecutions?”
The viewers of Good Morning Britain were reminded that Sawsan’s devastating losses included her mother, sister, brother-in-law, and three nieces.
Sawsan spoke to the two GMB presenters about the Grenfell inquiry
When questioned about her feelings regarding the parliamentary statement on the inquiry, her answer reflected deep sorrow, reports the Mirror.
She replied: “Devastated because it’s been a long time waiting for justice. We haven’t got justice.
“Now, they’ve come out with this report because of the inquiry, it’s taken them so long and nothing is going to bring our family back no matter what.”
Kate applauded her bravery for coming onto the show to speak about her family.
The ITV star asked: “Could it bring any comfort to think maybe at last the devastation of this is finally recognised? Have you felt that you’ve been, in a sense, shouting into the wind the last seven years?”
Sawsan agreed as she replied: “We’ve been shouting for so long and we’ve been fighting all of us to get justice and until now, we haven’t.
“Each one puts the blame on each other, no one is telling the truth. What happens after that, are we ever going to get there? Is there ever going to be justice for us?”
