James Martin made a dig at his old home of Saturday Kitchen on BBC One, leaving his guests Lorraine Kelly and Marti Pellow in hysterics.
James Martin joked that he had been “scarred for life” following his 10-year stint on rival morning show Saturday Kitchen.
James Martin’s Saturday Morning on ITV continued today with the host joined by talk show legend Lorraine Kelly and former Wet Wet Wet star Marti Pellow.
At the end of the programme, he teamed up with chef Andres Alamany to make them and fellow chef Dipna Anand an Arnold Bennett omelette with arbroath smokies.
But it was near the start of creating his dish that the 52-year-old made a subtle dig at his former cookery series Saturday Kitchen on BBC One.
“Over here, we’re going to do our omelette”, he began as Andreas continued to help in putting the dish together.
James Martin joked he was ‘scarred for life’
James then said: “I feel like this is the only time I’m ever going to do an omelette and I spent 10 years, on another show, just doing omelettes.
“It’s left me scarred for life has that damn omelette thing!
“But I’m not going to rush, there is no timer on this one.”
Lorraine, Marti and Dipna couldn’t help but laugh at James’ joke as he emphasised the “scarred for life” phrase with big hand gestures.
James Martin was the face of BBC’s Saturday Kitchen, which has a similar format to Saturday Morning on ITV, until he decided to quit in 2016.
He previously opened up on Loose Women about one of the moments which made him realise he needed to do something different.
James Martin’s joke tickled Lorraine Kelly and Marti Pellow. James explained: “Work was fundamental. But I was doing a gig abroad and I was chatting to a gentleman the same age as me with a similar work ethic, really keen on work.
“He went on stage literally five minutes after I spoke to him to do an awards ceremony and he died before he hit the floor.
“Just all of us were in total shock, and I got back on the plane and thought: ‘Now I’m going to re-address the balance.’ That was over a year ago.
“And I looked back at all the work I’d done. I’d had four days off that year and five days off the year before.
“That’s when I realised things would have to change. It’s partly the reason I gave up Saturday Kitchen.”
