GMB weather presenter Alex Beresford had plenty to say about his past work at ITV as he celebrated 20 years with the network – and is looking forward to the future

One Good Morning Britain star has confirmed his future at ITV after reaching an incredible milestone in his career.

Weather presenter Alex Beresford – who famously caused Piers Morgan to storm off-air, leading to him leaving the show – confessed working at ITV is the “only full-time job” he’s ever had. Chatting to hosts Adil Ray and Kate Garraway, Alex looked back on his earliest moments.

Adil introduced the segment by explaining: “Now it’s a very special day for someone today. You won’t believe it, looking at them, that they’ve been around this long, but Alex is celebrating 20 years at ITV. Unbelievable, incredible.”

Joking about Alex’s youthful looks, Adil joked: “He started when he was five years old, everyone.” While Kate chimed in: “I think we might have one of his earliest moments on ITV, I’m sorry Alex!”

Clips showed a young version of Alex rocking a pastel pink shirt and matching tie to give the weather report, as well as using a retro flip phone during a report. But he actually received some pretty stern words from a show editor about his fashion sense.

“In fact it was the very editor of this programme, Neil Thompson, who actually pulled me aside one day when I was about to start presenting the national weather, and he said, ‘Alex, we need to talk about your suits’. I needed help and luckily he stepped in and had a little word in my ear. So thank you Neil!”

Adil was keen to ask Alex about his future on the programme, wondering: “Another 20 years?”Alex was quick to confirm his future, gushing: “I’ve got another 20 years in me, yeah, yeah.” He added: “It’s the only full-time job I’ve ever had. My first job.”

The meteorologist later turned to X, formerly Twitter, to offer more comments on his milestone, telling his co-stars: “Thank you. It’s been an incredible 2 decades, but let’s address that tie and those eyebrows!”

Fans were keen to support him as one tweeted: “20 years!!! Where has the time gone? Alex, have you still got that pink shirt your first wore on ITV West Country? Here’s to the next 20+ years on ITV!”

The official ITV account wrote: “Happy ITV-ersary Alex! We loved those suits.” As another fan wrote: “Congratulations Alex, you don’t look a day older.”
