BBC Breakfast viewers were thrilled to see a familiar face taking to the red sofa with Charlie Stayt on Thursday morning, as they called for the presenter to make a return

Thursday’s edition of BBC Breakfast saw Charlie Stayt flying solo on the headline duties, but viewers were quick to notice that his regular co-host Naga Munchetty wasn’t on the sofa next to him.

Instead, Luxmy Gopal, who typically graces the screen on weekends, partnered up with Charlie for the day’s broadcast.

Soon after they hit the airwaves, Twitter lit up with viewers dropping compliments about Luxmy joining Charlie, with plenty of peeps keen on seeing a revolving cast of presenters fronting the show.

One of the morning tweets read: “Great to see Luxmy this morning on the breakfast sofa.”

Another easy-breezy follower expressed their delight: “Good morning Charlie and Luxmy What a lovely surprise to see you this morning Luxmy. I am liking the switching around of presenters that seems to be happening more at the moment Love our BBC,” reports the Express.

“Unexpected Thursday, @BBCBreakfast @luxmy_g it’s not Sunday. Nice surprise,” someone tweeted, tickled by Luxmy’s unscheduled appearance. Furthermore, one early bird chirped: “Morning again Luxmy and of course Charlie, lovely surprise seeing you this morning”.

In career news, Luxmy has openly shared that she’s bowing out of BBC Look North as she’s landed herself a fab new permanent gig at BBC London.

Luxmy Gopal wasn’t alone on the red sofa, as just the weekend before, she joined Roger Johnson. She dropped a quip saying: “Well, it’s got a trunk.”

Charlie Stayt missed it, but not Carol Kirkwood, who chuckled: “I liked Luxmy’s joke about having a trunk!” The BBC host didn’t miss a beat retorting: “At least you noticed it, Carol! Nobody else, absolute tumbleweed elsewhere, but thank you, Carol.”

When prodded by Charlie if it was worth another shout, Luxmy playfully dismissed: “It’s not worth repeating, if you’ve got to repeat a joke, it’s just nope.”

But Luxmy appreciated Carol’s sharp ear, cheekily naming her as her top pick.
