In Tu Ky district (Hai Duong) there are many ancient banyan trees hundreds of years old. These many banyan trees are both a place to preserve the soul of the countryside and a place to mark local history.

The ancient banyan tree in the middle of Quan Loc village, Tien Dong commune (Tu Ky) is hundreds of years old. Mr. Phung Xuan Du (75 years old), Chairman of the Elderly Association of Tien Dong commune, said that during the resistance war against the French, the banyan tree was a place for navigators to monitor enemy troops. During the period of fighting against the US imperialist war against the North, this was the place to hide and protect anti-aircraft guns.

The banyan tree in Quan Loc village was recognized by the Vietnam Central Association of Ornamental Biology as a “Vietnamese historical and cultural relic tree” in 2017.

The banyan tree in An Tho village, Nguyen Giap commune (Tu Ky) is located in the middle of a field, next to Road 391. According to the Victory Stele recorded in 1950, soldiers and people in the commune ambushed the enemy under the banyan tree. The red flag with a yellow star secretly placed on a banyan tree spread and encouraged the people’s enthusiasm to fight the enemy. Today, the banyan tree is a place where farmers and passersby rest when the weather is hot
