Carol McGiffin has revealed the reason she is too “frightened” to speak out against Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as she’s worried about incurring the wrath of her Loose Women co-star Denise Welch
Denise Welch and Carol McGiffin
Ex-Loose Women panellist Carol McGiffin has confessed to being “frightened” of Denise Welch’s fierce defence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Despite their close bond, formed over sunny getaways and shared screen time on ITV’s Loose Women, Carol has candidly expressed her trepidation about crossing Denise. Last year saw Carol step away from the show, but it’s only now that she’s voicing her fear of Denise’s “wrath” when it comes to the Sussexes.
Carol has been notably silent on the topic of Harry and Meghan for some time. In her column for Best, she divulged her reasons: “First, I don’t really care enough to have a go at them.”
She continued, “Second, because I’m aware talking about them gives them more relevance than they actually deserve. But lastly, I’m frightened of my friend Denise Welch whose wrath is cast upon anyone who dares criticise them.”
Denise Welch likes to defend Meghan Markle and Prince Harry
Back in May, Denise’s impassioned defence of the Royal couple led to a flurry of complaints to Ofcom, following criticism from former Royal press secretary Dickie Arbiter. Denise took to Instagram to slam the complaints as “utterly pathetic”, reports the Mirror.
Denise has been a vocal supporter of Meghan, expressing her shock at the treatment Meghan faces from the media and public. She praised Meghan’s resilience, saying: “I am appalled that this woman is abused and berated by the public and media on a daily basis. Not many people could mentally cope with the hate she contends with.”
She also highlighted the couple’s positive reception abroad, adding, “No wonder her husband took her away and despite everything they are thriving. Their reception in Nigeria has been wonderful to see.”
Carol McGiffin steers clear of discussing the ex-royals
During a heated debate on Loose Women, Dickie Arbiter didn’t hold back his views, stating: “[Prince] Harry has been rubbishing the family since he walked out in 2020.”
He also referenced Harry’s memoir ‘Spare’, released last year, and his various television interviews.
Denise Welch interjected, questioning: “Do you not think there is a reason why [he] did such a thing? ” She highlighted significant events in Harry’s life, including Princess Diana’s death and Queen Camilla’s entry into the Royal fold.
Denise expressed her exasperation with the ongoing criticism of Meghan Markle, concluding: “It’s a disgrace, the way she’s treated.”
